Robin D. Hunt the 6th of 10 children was born in a small town Picayune, MS. Writing with her left hand, isn't what made robin "different" from most children, but it was her gift of creativity. In the care of her aunt, Robins ability to design and sew was not only recognized, but nurtured. When Robin graduated High School she moved to Los Angeles to pursue her dream of becoming a Fashion Designer. Prior to obtaining her degree her dreams were shelved, as she faced a very difficult time in her life. While in her struggle Robin discovered her ability to do hair. Although her first love was to become a Fashion Designer, she had no idea that the gift of doing hair versus the ability to design fashion would be the gift that God intended to use to get Robin's life in order and later use to help others do the same. In 1993 Robin enrolled in Cosmetology School, where she would attend school during the day and do hair out of her home at night to pay the bills. Upon receiving her license in 1995 and the re-building of her life as a single parent, Robin never forgot where she came from. As her clientele increased, she employed other young women, and encouraged them to also pursue their dreams of becoming licensed Cosmetologist. With a lot of hard work, Robin opened her own business called Braid It Up! in 1997 and has been successful business owner for 17 years. Even with the arrival of her second daughter she was encouraged more than ever to continue her endeavor of helping others. In 2001 Robin received the LBPO Elks W Award for her outstanding contribution in assisting you people in the community. Also, again in 2005 Robin received The Lewis Memorial African American Achievement Award as Recognition as one of many Black entrepreneurs of San Jose. In 2007 Robin was nominated and selected as a member of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Silicon Valley Chapter and has continued to give back to her community by participating in various events hosted by the 100 Black Women Coalition. In 2009 Robin's desire to assist even more people in reaching their goals grew, and she began the planning of opening the first multi-cultural beauty school in the South Bay. After much planning, prayers, sweat and hard work, The Urban Oasis Academy of Beauty Cosmetology School Grand Opening was January 2013. Never allowing moss to grow under her feet, Robin stays busy! She is running her own business, the proud parent of 23 yr old Leticia Hunt-Graduate of Tuskegee University who is now a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air-Force, and 14 yr old Carla Hunt-an Honor Roll Student of East Valley Christian School. Despite being a full-time business owner and operator, Robin remains involved in her church, continues to mentor women who are also struggling, speaks at various meetings and events, all while striving to be a good example not only to her daughters, but to every woman she meets. Robin chose early on to make her stumbling blocks into stepping-stones, she has allowed God to change her life and uses her testimony to encourage others that they can do the same.
